The Europe and Latin America Research Program (ELARP) is based at the Centre for Research and Studies in Sociology (CIES) of the University Institute of Management, Social Sciences and Technology (ISCTE), in Lisbon.

ELARP was launched in 2003, with the aim of doing research, analysis, collecting data and promoting academic cooperation over the study of Latin American and European societies and politics. The academics of the Program mainly comes from CIES, but the Program involves also the participation of scholars from other research centers.

ELARP encompasses two broad areas of research: one develops European and comparative studies concerning Europe and Latin America, whereas the other focuses on transnational issues that link the two regions, thus covering social, cultural, economic, political aspects.

ELARP has earned financial support from Portuguese and International research funds. The program has also contributed several international and national publications, including books and peer-reviewed articles in prestigious journals and has organized several international conferences.

ELARP fosters advanced research regarding comparative politics and transnational issues. It encourages the mobility of academics, including researchers, professors and students (see EU grants), among its partners and beyond.

Through CIES, ELARP is associated to the European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR), the Inter-University Consortium for Political Research (ICPSR), and the European Union-Latin America Relations Observatory (EULARO-OBREAL). It is also linked to the Europe and Latin America Section (ELAS) of the Latin American Studies Association (LASA).
